Rotation Compass
The Rotation Compass Overlay in VirtualCoach is a visual aid designed to show the yaw (rotation) difference between your car and the coach/reference car. It is a compact and intuitive tool to evaluate corner rotation behavior in real time.
Reference

This overlay compares the rotation (yaw angle) of your car to that of the coach or reference lap.
Display Breakdown

| Arrow (Triangle) | Represents the current rotation direction of the driver’s car. |
| Top Bar Segment | Represents the yaw direction of the coach/reference car. In the picture above, the coachs car is rotated further to the left. |
This comparison lets you visually assess whether you are rotating too early, too late, or in sync with the reference data.
Note: This overlay shows only rotation difference. It does not relate to left/right track position, as live lateral position data is not available in iRacing.
Usecase
Section titled “Usecase”The Rotation Compass Overlay is especially useful in corners to:
- Identify if you are rotating the car too slowly or too quickly.
- Compare mid-corner and exit rotation behavior against the coach.
- Understand where your rotation phase begins and ends versus the reference.
This can help fine-tune steering input timing and brake release habits. To better understand whether rotation differences are caused by too much or too little steering input or by differences in speed, consider using the Input or Graph overlays alongside the Rotation Compass.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”There are no configurable settings for this overlay. It always displays the same format and updates in real time. However, like all overlays, its size and position can be adjusted freely on screen.
Additional Notes
Section titled “Additional Notes”- This overlay works well alongside the Input Overlay and Graph Overlay for a full picture of car behavior.
- Position and size can be adjusted freely on screen. Remember to click Save Positions if moved.
The Rotation Compass Overlay is a lightweight but powerful tool to help visualize cornering dynamics and improve rotation control lap after lap.
